Enhancing vaccine clinical trials participation among elderly

The elderly population is the fastest growing demographic worldwide, projected to reach nearly 1 billion by 2030 and double the 2022 number by 2050.

Elderly individuals are often reservoirs for multidrug-resistant pathogens due to their frequent exposure to health care services and subsequent exposure to antibiotic treatments. An additional risk factor for elderly patients is the frequent presence of medical devices, ranging from catheters to prosthetics, escalating the risk of infection. Vaccines may offer a significant opportunity to counter the threat reducing infections and subsequent antibiotic use.

What you will learn:

  • Challenges associated with clinical research in elderly participants
  • Strategies for the successful enrollment of elderly participants in clinical trials
